L'oeil de la Genève Internationale April 2019 Zoom George Rodger / Magnum Photos To announce the UNESCO conference, entitled "Protecting Cultural Property: International Conference on the 20th anniversary of the 1999 Second Protocol to the 1954 Hague Convention", a replica of Palmyra’s Triumphal Arch, destroyed in 2015, is being erected on Place des Nations. This reproduction aims to highlight the importance of protecting cultural property in armed conflicts. Here, Palmyra’s Arch in 1966 by George Rodger. With Henri Cartier-Bresson, Robert Capa and David Seymour, Rodger founded Magnum in 1947, one of the largest photographic endeavors of the 20th century. The images that retrace the key moments of his career are published in the monography "Humanity et Inhumanity" by Phaidon.
